DIY Yarn Container

Paint Can Turned Yarn Container

I know it’s been a long time since I’ve been able to sit down and post something. Life with three children is crazier than I imagined and I have not had the time to post. I have been working on some awesome projects and recipes and I can’t wait to share to them with you.

Today I was at Hobby Lobby checking out their 80% off Christmas items. I saw some see through decorative paint cans and instantly realized that I could turn those into yarn containers. No more having the baby play in the yarn and create terrible knots. No more creating tangles because I wasn’t paying attention and the yarn got snagged under my chair. The pictures are not going to be great because I was in a big hurray to try it out. You know how us crafters are! I think any paint can would do. I choose these because they are fairly see through and they were only $1.40 a piece!

So pretty

So pretty

1. Take your paint can, any clean crafty can will do. The clear ones would be ideal so you can see how much yarn you have left.

2. Drill a hole in the center of the top. I used a 5.5 drill bit.

3. The inside of the lid is going to be rough, as the metal is going to be jagged and pointed. Take a hammer and strike flat against the hole on either side. This will flatten out the metal and make it smooth to the touch.

4. Insert yarn and enjoy!

See how easy that was! Now you can keep your yarn safe and sound. I hope you all benefit from this as much as I am going to. Now that Christmas is over I  can start on projects just for the fun of it. As little man gets older and I get a handle on my new crazy life I hope to be able to share more tips, tricks, projects and recipes in the year to come.

Happy New Year and Happy Crafting!

Pumpkin Spice Latte

In Momma Must Have, Recipes on October 16, 2013 at 8:34 am

I shared my Spice Island Latte already but for those of you that can’t do without your Starbucks Pumpkin Spice Latte here is the best copycat recipe out there. I’ve tried quite a few and they’ve always been missing something or had too much of something else. This one is by far the best I’ve tasted, even if I am a bit biased with it being my own recipe. 🙂

Pumpkin Spice Latte Pumpkin Spice Latte

5 T. (or 1/3 c.) Whole Milk, Steamed

4 oz. (or about 3 shots) French Press Coffee

1 1/2 T. Pumpkin Spice Syrup

Whipped Cream and Cinnamon for topping

Steam milk then add coffee and syrup. Add whipped cream and cinnamon if desired. You can also do a bit of caramel syrup on top as well. Yum.

Origin’s Spice Odyssey Copycat Recipe

In Momma Must Have on September 30, 2013 at 2:47 pm

I love good body scrubs. I always feel amazing once i’ve been scrubbed clean. I use to work for Origins and while I worked there they came out with a body scrub called spice odyssey. It was amazing! It smelled like fall in a jar. Now that’s it’s time for fall I wanted to enjoy it again and of course, they no longer carry the product. So I decided to make my own.

Spice OdysseyAs I was researching the scrub I found that it’s made with seven herbs and spices and 20 essential oils. I couldn’t find all of them but I did my best to recreate the scent and I think that I did pretty well! I stayed with spices that I had in the pantry. I like to be able to make something when I need it and not have to run to the store to pick up ingredients.

Spice Island Body Scrub

1/2 c. Cocunut oil

4 T. Sugar

4 T. Fine Sea Salt

4 T. Course Sea Salt

2 t. Cloves

1/2 t. All-spice

1/2 t. Nutmeg

1/2 t. Ginger

1/2 t. Cinnamon

14 t. Black Pepper

Hint of Orange Spice

Mix together and store in an air tight container. Use body scrub anywhere on your body, except your face. It’s a little too intense for the face.

Enjoy!

Spice Island Latte

In Momma Must Have, Recipes on September 26, 2013 at 11:32 am

Oh yum. I am getting thirsty just typing about this wonderful drink! I talked briefly about trying a Treasure Spice Island drink when I posted the pumpkin spice syrup recipe. I have been able to replicate it *almost* perfectly, thus the name change. It is still wonderful though and the Hubs and I have been enjoying one nearly every night this week!

Spice Island Latte Spice Island Latte

2/3 c. Water

1/3 c. Whole Milk

1 Chai Teabag (or 1 1/2 t. loose chai tea)

1 1/2 T. Pumpkin Spice Syrup

1/2 t. Vanilla Extract

The best way to make chai tea is to mix all ingredients in a small sauce pan and stir occasionally, taking care not to let the tea boil. The flavors are much richer this way. Once tea is heated through pour into desired mug (if you used loose tea be sure to run through a mesh strainer to get all of the spice bits out of your tea) and top with a dollop of whipped cream and cinnamon, if desired.

Serve and savor! This really has become my new favorite fall flavor!
